During my walk, I headed out with Kaiya to explore the neighborhood around campus. We originally based our walk on the people we saw, choosing to follow those who had dogs for 10 seconds before continuing down a different route. Over time as we continued our walk, we lost track of our rules, focusing moreso on what we encountered and exploring based on our interest and gut instead. We found ourselves wandering into grocery stores, cafes, and parks. Close by Fort Greene Park, we stumbled on a maker's market filled with small businesses and vintage stores. It was incredibly fun to wander through and see what each person had. As the derive came to an end, we found ourselves grabbing doughnuts before parting ways.
From the derive, I found myself in familiar and foreign places. It was fun being able to recognize a few streets before falling back into the unknown. The derive introduced me to new spaces I hadn't seen before as well as showed me new angles to places I had visited in the past. It was intersting how we both had different experiences with the same neighborhood. Overall, the walk took around two hours.
